The biggest mistake everyone in porn seems to make is with lighting, or lack of lighting actually. We made the same mistake and our first videos suffered because of it. So we'll share what we've learned and maybe it will help you improve your video quality.
Your room may seem bright to your eyes but cameras require a lot more light to truly capture colors and details. If you don't have enough light in your room your video will end up very dark and very grainy, or what's known as "noise" in the camera world. If you want to get into the techy stuff, look into the "ISO settings" on your camera.
Bottom line? You want to make your room as bright as you can so add lighting! In fact, add way more than you'll think you need!
Either way (day time or night time), start by turning on all of the lights in the room. Over head lights, table lights, etc. Turn them all on. Guess what, this will make it hot as well so turn down the air conditioning now too if needed. Avoid fans as they often make the audio worse, though ceiling fans usually are okay.
Next up, add in some studio lighting because your overhead and table lights aren't enough. Every wonder why "pro" porn looks so good? It's 90% because they add in a lot of extra lights. The other 10% is really just better camera equipment but that's for another post.
We like these LED studio lights that come on a tripod the most. Consider getting two of them and put one on either side of your bedroom, pointed at your bed. These should be behind the camera so you're not shooting at the lights. They're cheap enough and a great investment.
If you use a GoPro for your handheld shots, like we do, try one of these sweet LED GoPro Lights. They mount to your GoPro and have their own battery. They're ever waterproof, good news for your squirters!
It really is that simple. And buying that studio light on the tripod (less than $100) will be worth every penny.
Why Lighting?
First off, we need to cover what lighting does for your videos. Right, it let's you see the video! But here's the thing, most people think that because they can see in the room they're shooting that the camera can as well. But it doesn't work like that.Your room may seem bright to your eyes but cameras require a lot more light to truly capture colors and details. How To Add Lighting For High Quality Videos
First off, if you're shooting in the day time the easy place to start is to let sunlight come into your room. You simply can't beat a lot of natural sunlight for your shoot. But even that isn't enough in most cases. If you're shooting at night you'll need to add lights, lots of them.Either way (day time or night time), start by turning on all of the lights in the room.
